Den amerikanske pianist og komponist Jason Moran giver koncert til den officielle åbning af Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2017. Han er en god ven af København og én af de mest betydningsfulde pianister i sin generation. Jason Moran (f. 1975) forbinder de store jazzpianister med et nutidigt udtryk, der både som akustisk jazz og futuristiske hiphop-inspirationer opererer som samtidsmusik, der konstant leder efter nye veje fremad i jazzsproget. Den mangedobbelte prisvinder, som bl.a. er blevet sammenlignet med Thelonious Monk, Fats Wallers og Herbie Hancock, udgiver på Blue Note Records og har bl.a. modtaget Downbeats prestigefyldte kritikerpriser “Jazz Artist of The Year”, “Pianist of the Year” og “Jazz Album of the Year”. Foruden 20 års udgivelser i eget navn har han været kunstnerisk leder for jazz i John F. Kennedy Center og siden sidste år også Honorary Professor på RMC i København.
